Bible Based Health Care: PowerPoint Presentation Now Available

Bible Based Health Care is a PowerPoint presentation that I developed and now offer for use by other doctors.

Don’t Forget God in Your Marketing Efforts to Build and Maintain Your Practice.

I bet you are no different than me. We learn stunning truths about how the body works, we know what real health is, we observe amazing improvements in our patients, and we frustratingly ask, “Where are all the people I could be helping?”

“How can I teach my community what I have to offer?” is a better question to ask.

-“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, ..” ( Matthew 28:19). Jesus gave us all that Great Commission. Likewise, we are obligated to spread our knowledge and experience about health.

3 years ago, after 25 successful and very comfortable years in Chiropractic, I had a near death experience upon falling through the ice and almost drowning! It motivated me to embark on fulfilling a long calling I’ve felt to satisfy my frustration with the public’s deception about health.  For several years I’d been resisting that urgent calling to reach out and help both the general public and other chiropractors on a grand scale, and knew I’d been blessed with a second chance to fulfill my mission after narrowly surviving that icy death trap. It’s a classic “You can run but you can’t hide” story.

I had published several articles about practice management and clinical competence over the years; so the next logical step was to author a book for the general public, and develop a patient education program that chiropractors can use to attract and retain more patients.  I looked closely at the many holistic health books on the book store shelves, and became even more motivated upon noticing that most of them are written poorly by either celebrities or “medical defectors” with little or no formal training or experience in holistic health. I also noticed that all of the patient education programs leave out the most important element – God!

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”   ~1 Timothy 4: 8-9

“They will turn to the Lord, and He will respond to their pleas and heal them.” – Isaiah 19:22

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”                       – Romans 12:1

My newly released 364 page book Whole Health Healing: The Budget Friendly Natural Wellness Bible for All Ages is carefully written with an emphasis on enlightening the public that chiropractic is a vital component of optimum health, and that God has gifted us with our own “doctor within”. I specifically illustrate the benefits of chiropractic in the chapter called Structure Based Health Care. Additional chapters include Raising Healthier Children, Growing Older and Really Enjoying It, Exercises That Really Work, Enjoying Eating, and even How to Talk to Your Doctor. I even included an autism case study I previously published. The overall intention of the book is to clarify that it’s an honor to God when we care for our bodies as stated in 1st Corinthians 6:19,20. I’m aiming to get more people into chiropractic offices and motivate them to use it for a lifetime. Why? Because I have not observed any safer, more effective and economical path to optimal health.

(see this  book’s Table of Contents at the end of this article)

“Whole Health Healing is a well-researched and surprisingly entertaining book. Dr. Potisk is clearly “’outraged” at the current American “sickness-care” system, and it has lit a fire within him to inspire others to get well naturally. If more doctors were like him, we’d all be healthier for it.” Suzy Cohen, RPh author of The 24-Hour Pharmacist and Drug Muggers

Thank you for writing this book. I really enjoyed it and I even learned from it. It is amazing how much we know but just don’t put to use as a chiropractic family. It was refreshing to be reminded of the basics again. I am going to make this a required reading for my staff in our office, even the doctors need to read this so they remember how the patient receives this information. God Bless,  -Donna Williams, office manager, Williams Chiropractic Office, Ontario, Oregon

The reader response has been phenomenal. I frequently get comments like “Now I get it.” And “Why wasn’t I told this before?” Here is a recent comment I was emailed:  “I rarely buy books about health anymore after being let down by several that I found to be over-hyped and impractical.  But upon a recommendation of a friend, I bought Whole Health Healing and was blown away at the conversational style I can understand and with information I can put to use right now. I’ll use chiropractic for the rest of my life. It’s easy to recognize Dr Potisk’s training and experience with the subject, and I love all the little stories he uses from his experiences in his practice, his own family, and his travels to remote places on Christian  mission trips. I’m now getting my wife and child on this new healthy path Dr Potisk makes so easy to follow.” – Brian Lampe of CEO Ministries

I never asked for any referrals yet had a huge referral based practice. One of my success secrets was to strategically place information like this book around my office to stimulate the patients to ask me “Do you think you could help my…..?” This book belongs in every DC’s lending library, displayed in reception and adjusting rooms, and in every DC’s community library. In conjunction with the book, I also developed an attractive and easy to use PowerPoint presentation called Bible Based Health Care,  meant to be  used  for presentations in offices,  at churches and community events.

To doctors who are struggling I ask “Are you actively reaching out to the people in your community?” Most who struggle are not doing it adequately and consistently. Some will say that they can’t afford to do so. They don’t realize that providing a lay lecture, like this Bible Based Health Care presentation is the most economical method of outreach.

“Dr. Potisk very capably delivers health and life information that is critically-needed in these times. Further, the importance of his message is reinforced by the fact that he lives his words in his own life.” -Dr Victor Strang, Professor of Philosophy and Communication, Palmer College of Chiropractic

The cost is only $24.95 per book plus shipping. The PowerPoint presentation called Bible Based Health Care is included with the purchase of just ten books (total $249.50 plus tax/shipping). Substantial discounts are available for higher volume book purchases. Contact me for details at tpotisk@aol.com. And I include more!

About the Bible Based Health Care Presentation:

This PowerPoint presentation contains 35 separate and unique slides. The presentation is aimed at both current chiropractic patients and potential chiropractic patients, illustrating the holistic concept of health being much more than just the absence of symptoms, that chiropractic care benefits all ages, and that the best reason to maintain health is as an honor to God.

“It is my privilege to have known Dr. Thomas Potisk for the past 15 years. Since joining the congregation, Dr. Potisk has risen steadily as a lay leader and currently serves as chairman of our board of elders. He is a frequent speaker and exhibitor at health fairs and models healthy living. He has served as my personal chiropractor for a number of years until cartilage loss in his hands put an early end to his active practice. Since retiring from daily practice he has been writing and promoting healthy living materials on his website and in print. I have only the highest respect both for his Christian faith but also his commitment to healthy living. His Bible Based Health Care program is tops!”. –Pastor Mark Jeske, St Marcus church and Time of Grace Ministries, Milwaukee, WI.

After illustrating what real health is and motivating the audience to want it, the presentation focuses on 3 main areas: eating/nutrition, exercise/stretching, and posture/body structure. It contains several applicable biblical quotes, some humor, dozens of pictures, , illustrations on the importance of the nervous system, and even a short video ( on cell division – real healing). When I give the presentation it takes approximately 45 minutes. The response is phenomenal!

The “missing link” in all presentations is how you close it. This is an art. Included in this package is a narrated CD of me giving this class and my unique close.  You won’t want to miss it!

I suggest presenting this program in your office regularly and offering it to churches, businesses, and civic organizations in your community. The books that accompany the program can be sold, placed around your office, in your community’s library, given as door prizes, and/ or offered as rewards for your patients who refer.

I often hear practice management speakers say “It’s all about people.” I go a step farther and say “It’s all about God and his people!” That’s why I made this Bible Based Health Care presentation available – to put God first. God has been forgotten in health care for far too long; and even better, it’s a perfect fit!

As an incentive –if you order 10 or more books within the next weeks time, you’ll not only receive the 35 slide PowerPoint presentation customized with your name/address/phone number/website on the first and last slide, and the CD with my unique close– but I’ll also include my 140 page ebook called Reclaim the Joy of Practice: An Advanced Guide for Advancing Doctors. This ebook contains over 50 cutting edge tips that I used to build and maintain (Thanks be to God!) a hugely successful multi-DC chiropractic office.  All this for just $249.50. It’s really a $369.00 value!

Bio – Dr. Tom Potisk                                               140

Introduction

Patients are more demanding of their doctors than ever before. They want top notch care from someone who is whole-heartedly dedicated, up-to-date, always available, on time, well rested, secure, thorough, honest, healthy, trustworthy, and a great communicator. Oh yeah, and don’t forget they want a lot of your time and someone else to pay for it. Whew!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a huge responsibility doesn’t it? It is. But it’s also quite an honor to be needed like that, and you would want the same if you were a patient. Whether you’re a veteran doctor or new graduate, you’ll find solutions to dealing with those demands in this book.

If you find yourself pushing back at improving yourself and making changes, perhaps saying to yourself “I’m fine. I’m giving it all I’ve got. I’m human. Nobody will notice my deficiencies. I’ve already got a successful career. I’ll be retiring soon anyway.” or just, “Don’t bother me.” Then I’m really worried about you because every single one of us needs to strive for improvement. We especially owe that to those who seek our help.

“When you’re finished changing, you’re finished.” – Benjamin Franklin

The days of doctors barking out orders to patients, talking to patients instead of with them, and maintaining a composure of arrogance, are long gone. The patients likely know more, or will soon learn as much if not more, than their doctors about their illness and infirmities thanks to the media and internet. In this current era, we need to consider ourselves more of a partner in our patient’s health, yes a partner with our patient, and partners need to be held to certain standards. Accepting our role as their partner, embracing it and developing it, is the key that unlocks the door to obtaining or reclaiming, and then maintaining, the joy of practice.

And don’t consider our new role to be a let down. No, our position in society is a vitally important one and always will be, but like everything else, it changes with time. One could easily argue that this change is long overdue. If you’re not already aware, doctors like you and me, on average, have several serious problems. We have a higher suicide rate then the general public. We have shorter life spans on average. We have higher rates of depression, divorce and drug abuse than the general population. And worse yet, we hide it all very well with our fancy new cars, big houses, expensive clothes, exotic vacations, and unfortunately, our overly inflated egos. Some of us are a shameful mess. Most of us are so full of ourselves; we have trouble seeing beyond our bank balances. If I’ve gotten your attention, congratulations, you’re now on the path of betterment. If you’re in denial, keep reading – please!

Allow me to interrupt the fairytale of being a doctor. Let me help you look at, or hopefully outward from, the camouflaged downward spiral that so many doctors fall into. This is serious business. Your health, your family, your friends, future doctors, and most importantly the patient in front of you, needs and deserves that you be the best that you can be. Let this book give you a “check-up from the neck-up”.

I wrote this book not just for you but also for me. I want “us” to have the inner peace knowing, without any doubt, that we’ve done all we can to be our best for our patients. This isn’t about technical skills, although those are important too. No, the lessons in this book are mostly about you and me as persons – happy healthy human beings, and the related skills that are sadly lacking in today’s doctors.

You see the day will come, whether you are dreading it or hoping for it, that we will eventually no longer be able to serve patients. It may come as a result of our choosing, perhaps retirement, or as a result of unforeseen circumstances such as disability, licensing changes, or family issues.

So join me on this journey of introspection, of self evaluation, of planning and self improvement, so that on our final day in this world, when we gasp our last breath, we’ll go out with a big smile, being content, that we’ve done all that was possible, that we can be proud and assured, that our patients can be proud and assured of us, that we gave them all that they deserve, and that we practiced with joy as a partner in their health and we did it to glorify God.

Once again -as an incentive –if you order 10 or more books within the next weeks time, you’ll not only receive the 35 slide PowerPoint presentation customized with your name/address/phone number/website on the first and last slide, – but I’ll also include an audio CD of me explaining each slide with my unique close  and my 140 page ebook called Reclaim the Joy of Practice: An Advanced Guide for Advancing Doctors. Jack LaLanne: 4 Secrets of His Success

Jack LaLanne passed away last week; he was 96.

I’ve always taken to heart the age old question, “Why re-invent the wheel?” when it comes to success. I’m looking for short-cuts, and one of the best ones is observation of successful people. The life and times of Jack LaLanne is definitely full of success lessons, especially for those of us doctors involved with fitness.

Some “Jack” history: The Jack LaLanne Show, which aired from 1951 to 1985, brought the fitness guru into homes. Often accompanied by his white German shepherd, Happy, LaLanne needed only a chair and towel to run through a routine and show housewives how to get fit. “Come on, now, girls. We’re going to work on” — he’d pat his rear — “reducing the old back porch.”

Video: Jack LaLanne 10 point plan

Jack was a blogger just like me, Dr Tom Potisk. In his last blog entry he wrote “Hope you all are keeping your New Year’s Resolutions to taking care of the most important person on this earth, YOU!! “ In his December 2010 entry he wroteYour waistline is your lifeline so let’s keep it up!

Jack LaLanne is a true pioneer. He led American fitness, exercise, and was a nutritional expert, celebrity, lecturer, and motivational speaker who is widely referred to as “The Godfather of Fitness“. LaLanne gained worldwide recognition for his success as a chiropractor and bodybuilder, and for his incredible and prodigious acts of strength and endurance. Through his career, LaLanne has won numerous awards including the Horatio Alger Award from the Association of Distinguished Americans, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Hall of Fame.

Early Life

Jack LaLanne was born September 26, 1914 in San Francisco, CA and admittedly, during his childhood days was addicted to sugar and junk foods. At age 15, young Jack heard Paul Bragg speak on health and nutrition which had such a powerful influence, it motivated Jack to focus on his diet and exercise habits.

When he was a teenager, he dropped out of school for a year because he was so ill. Shy and withdrawn, he avoided being with people. He had pimples and boils, was thin, weak, and sickly, and wore a back brace. “I also had blinding headaches every day,” Jack recalled. “I wanted to escape my body because I could hardly stand the pain. My life appeared hopeless.”
Then he met the pioneer nutritionist Paul Bragg, who preached a new way of living, and to his credit, Jack listened. Bragg asked Jack, “What do you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?”
“Cakes, pies, and ice cream,” Jack answered truthfully.

“Jack,” Bragg replied, “you’re a walking garbage can.”

He pointed young Jack in a healthier direction. That night Jack got down on his knees by the side of his bed and prayed. He didn’t say, “God, make me the strongest man in the world.” Instead, he asked for a new beginning. “God, please give me the willpower to refrain from eating unhealthy foods when the urge comes over me. And please give me the strength to exercise even when I don’t feel like it.”

Jack was truly a pioneer, as he studied Henry Gray’s Anatomy of the Human Body and concentrated on bodybuilding, chiropractic medicine, and weightlifting, something virtually unheard of in the 1930s.

Health Clubs

In 1936 LaLanne opened his own health spa in Oakland, CA, and dedicated his life to encouraging people to better themselves through exercise and fitness. LaLanne designed the world’s first leg extension machines, pulley machines using cables, and weight selectors, now a standard in the fitness industry.

So what were some of Jack’s secrets that we doctors can learn from?

1)      He had fun with his passion. According to Dr Bill Toth, author and speaker at Createyourfate “Jack LaLanne is largely responsible for my journey into the Health and Wellness industry and ultimately becoming a physician that focused on Sport Injuries. As a child I secretly watched him because I too was the skinny scrawny little kid wanting to be fit and vibrant. He changed an entire culture by being his own brand, by standing for something and weathering the rejection that comes when one is outside the box. He was a consistent, persistent, grateful, humble American original who had FUN!! I am grateful for his example, mentoring and passion for health and wellness. Live with Intention.”

2)      He was dedicated and persistent. According to AJ Khubani Founder/CEO of TeleBrands, the “As Seen on TV” products company, “Jack LaLanne was a true legend. He created a huge persona in the world of infomercials through his exercise and health equipment. He always strived to be the best he could be and to translate those attributes to those across the globe. Jack was dedicated to making us all healthier and would never stop. I remembers a piece of advice Jack gave him about exercising. He said, The only thing that you have to focus on is getting to the gym — once you get there, you are certainly going to do something. I followed that advice and continue to exercise for my health.”

3)      He practiced what he preached. Danny Russo, health and fitness expert who worked with LaLanne in California years ago, had this to say, “Jack LaLanne was an amazing human being. He practiced what he preached. He was the real deal. He was a great man and a tremendous influence on me and my fitness career. What is really cool is that everything he taught us starting in the 50’s and 60s and onward, is still true and applicable today. Jack motivated Americans to pump iron, eat healthy and get fit decades before it was cool. The principles he taught are more crucial than ever today with the country facing sedentary lifestyles and an obesity epidemic. You want a hero? Jack LaLanne now there’s a hero.”

4)      He loved people. Wally Runnels, author,  said, “I worked as an art director on the Jack LaLanne ad account. Periodically we’d shoot our commercials in one of the LaLanne studios. Jack was a very nice man, not large but his presence made up for size. Always energetic. Jack and I were talking in the lobby when two older ladies came in. Jack saw them and went to explain the studio was closed. They saw Jack and they just melted. He took them by the hand and chatted for a few minutes and they left giggling. They had met Jack LaLanne. Jack came back and said, “Yeah, it’s about people isn’t it?”’.

Wow! This is a person we can all learn from. I wish I would have met him in person. He had a profound influence on countless lives. Here are a few examples:

“Jack Lalanne was one of the nicest guys in Hollywood to work with. On one occasion (he was roughly 58, I was 22) he lifted me with one arm above his shoulders! Jack is one of the real
gentlemen (and real people) I’ve ever worked with in my 40 year career.” - Marc Curtis, President, US Plan B, Inc

“I grew up watching Jack on TV while my mother exercised to his program. I’m now a private practice dietitian, partly because of his positive influence. He’s been my hero ever since then. ” – Alice Baland, MA, LPC, RD/LD, Dietitian, Psychotherapist

“Jack was true to form during my interview of him for my Doctorate studies – he made
me do jumping jacks, sit ups and push ups.  Jack gave insights in to his youth, his own personal transformation, how to overcome obstacles, and how to achieve true lasting success, health and happiness. ” –  Professor Howard Haller Ph.D., CEO, The Leadership Success Institute

“It was his genuine care and concern about people that instilled, or at least cultivated, the same in me. For that I am most grateful. It’s not about fame or fortune except as those might both be used to help more and more people to their own healthy and fulfilling lives. He needs to be honored as the forefather of Americans taking up Personal Responsibility for our Physical Health and Fitness!!!” – Amy Lee, Founder, Whole Health Club & Her Native Roots

“He influenced me in my early days of my youth seeing his photos in the gym, seeing his commercials, reading his work , and how he was able to be physically fit and muscular yet still be concerned with internal health. This role model led me into the direction I am in now which reaches all levels of health i my new book, Natural to Super Natural Health. I am now doing tv, radio, articles in natl. magazines etc so basically he changed my life for good…. ” – David Herzog, certified health coach

“Years ago when I was in my thirties, I was influenced by Jack LaLanne because I believe exercise is the secret to good health besides healthy eating. He was the TV rage for mothers who stayed home with their children. My mother and I did the exercises with Jack. I have exercised all my life and at 83 years have added twelve years to my life.” – Floriana Hall, author

“I believe Jack truly cared about people and their health. He set me on a track of incorporating exercise into my schedule and I still have one of his health shakes every morning. I talked to him several times throughout the years after I started my own PR business in the eighties. I am sure Jack is still doing pull-ups somewhere out there.” – Sharon Cook, publicist/public relations

All of us doctors need to have people like Jack as our mentors. I’ll never forget the time I saw him on television and he said ‘I can’t die because it would be bad for my image!” Rest in peace Jack, you deserve it!
